HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WDAM) - Educators in the Sixth Street Museum District celebrated science and healthy eating by hosting a hands-on seminar for children on Saturday.
This event marked the first Science Saturday at Smith for 2026.
Designed for children in second through fifth grades, the interactive event began at Smith Drugs on Mobile Street and concluded next door at the Historic Eureka School.
Saturday’s theme, "Energy Bites and Science Delights," focused on demonstrating how different foods provide energy for the body.
“It’s fun, and it’s an educational opportunity,” said Vanessa Molden, operations and visitor engagement manager for the Sixth Street Museum District. “They’re learning which foods give you fast energy and which foods provide slow-burning energy.”
Two additional Science Saturdays at Smith are scheduled for 2026, with events planned for June and September.
